Big Wave World Champ Billy Kemper took out the $50,000 first-place cheque for the Da Hui Backdoor Shootout, while Volcom finished first place in the team division.

Not a bad week for Tenore’s roster, with Jett Schilling also clinching the World Junior Titles in Oceanside.

There’s no event in surfing that represents our culture and community like the Backdoor Shootout does,” Kemper shared on Instagram, announcing the accomplishment. “To win this event is a dream come true, I just wanna thank @huioheenalunorthshore, Uncle Eddie, and aunty Mahina for making this all possible.”

Kemper now lists: Big Wave World Champion (2017), a Hawaiian Pro win at Haleiwa (2018), a Sunset Pro win in 2020, 4x Jaws wins and a Backdoor Shootout win (2024) on his resume.

With his victory at the Backdoor Shootout, Kemper has won at all three of the North Shore’s primary competitive venues: Haleiwa, Sunset Beach and Pipeline.
