A Damn Good Reason To Retire From The CT
Parko, Conner Coffin, Ho fam and friends graced with terrific waves in Four Seasons Maldives comp.
Is the Maldives Surfing Champions Trophy where competitive surf careers go to drink mojitos and slowly fade into the twilight?
It sure seems that way.
Each year, the pearly gates of the Four Seasons open and a handful of CT retirees descends upon the Maldivian outcroppings for a week of surfboard experimentation, friendly competition, and, usually, very good waves.
This year, Joel Parko, Adriano de Souza, the Ho siblings, and newly minted freesurfer Conner Coffin were invited to the Retiree Rumble and, par for the course, have been scoring better waves than the WSL has seen all year.
Though we’ll have a full recap from our friend-on-site Chris Binns, highlights from the opening day of single and twin-finning include:
- Joel Parkinson saying modern twin fins are so good you can now surf them like ‘normal boards.’
- Adriano de Souza is pretty sure he’s in a CT event, claims tube, drops high 8 to be safe.
- Sans sticker, unknown Maldivian wildcard Hood Ahmed manufactures backhand tube excellence against Joel Parkinson — equals Conner Coffin in rankings.
- Coco Ho and Parko pair back-to-back tubes in blessed style crossover
