Plans to build a £60m (roughly USD 70 million) surf lagoon have just been submitted to Trafford Council in Manchester. The team of Leslie Jones Architecture and McKinney Group wants to revamp the abandoned industrial site with a surf lagoon powered by Wavegarden, artificial beach bars, bouldering spots (fancy British word for rock climbing), and even a bowl for the Manchester skaters that are allergic to water.

According to blooloop:
Located on an abandoned industrial site close to the Trafford Centre, Modern Surf is set to become the UK’s most innovative simulated surf attraction. LJA plans to merge surf culture with the site’s industrial past.

“The designs include street artwork collaborations and a generous interactive landscape public realm for workout and play,” LJA said.

Sounds lovely; surf culture has been craving this blend of sport and abandoned industrial properties for quite some time now.
