The WSL Announces Changes To The 2021 CT Schedule

The WSL just announced significant changes to the 2021 WCT schedule.

The Oi Rio Pro event in Brazil has been canceled, and the waiting period for Corona Open at Barra de la Cruz, Mexico, has been pushed back until August 10. The delay has been put in place to allow competitors in the Tokyo Olympics more time to arrange travel plans and quarantine if needed. Regarding the cancellation in Brazil, the WSL said:

The Oi Rio Pro had originally been pushed back from June to August in hopes of safely running the event. The WSL has continued to monitor the situation and decided to cancel the event for 2021 out of an abundance of caution for the safety of athletes, staff, and the local community. The WSL looks forward to returning to Saquarema with the world’s best surfers in 2022.

The remainder of the 2021 Championship Tour calendar will run as follows :

• Jeep Surf Ranch Pro presented by Adobe: Lemoore, California, USA June 18 – 20, 2021

• Corona Open Mexico presented by Quiksilver: Barra de La Cruz, Mexico August 10 – 20, 2021

• Outerknown Tahiti Pro: Teahupo’o, Tahiti August 24 – September 3, 2021

• Rip Curl WSL Finals: Lower Trestles, California, USA September 9 – 17, 2021

The next event is the Surf Ranch Pro, which will start on June 18 in Lemoore, California. While this event is set to run on schedule, you can expect to see some line-up changes on both the men’s and women’s rosters.
