Three Groms Save Lives At Peregian Beach

The swift response of three Sunshine Coast groms saved the lives of two struggling swimmers at Peregian Beach, the same place that took a life last week. Carter Bourke, 13, Zayde Taylor,11, and his brother Jai, 13, were surfing on Sunday when they heard cries for help.

They noticed two men on the verge of sinking beneath the surface and paddled over. The young surfers acted quickly and offered their tiny shortboards to the struggling swimmers. They brought one swimmer in and warned the lifeguards that another person was still drowning.

According to Daily Telegraph:

Sergeant Peter Blake of Coolum Beach Police, who attended the beach drowning, said the boys’ actions were fantastic.

“For them to be mature enough to put themselves out to rescue someone else was a mighty effort in very difficult circumstances that a lot of adults would have trouble dealing with afterwards,” Sgt Blake said.

The three groms are considered heroes in the community, and are responsible for preventing two fatalities on Sunday.
