The Only Surfer Who Scored In This Dismal SoCal Winter

Talk to any surfer between Santa Barbara and San Diego and they’ll inform you that the 2017/18 winter was, by all accounts, the worst they have ever experienced. From memory, there were two messy swells back in January, and beyond that, nothing. A couple windswells here and there but nothing to truly light up SoCal’s wintertime points, beaches, and reefs.

That is unless your name is Duran Barr. 

This San Diego native seemed to be living in an alternate universe this winter, scoring tubes both domestically and across the Mexican border on a number of occasions. Where the rest were on these fun-looking days is a mystery to me, but this video reinforces that fact that if you wake up early enough and truly commit to the search, good waves are almost always there to be found.  

Nevertheless, Duran can get fucked.
