Big, Small, Mason Barnes Does It All
The North Carolina native is making a push for the big wave world.
Do you like big straights, small tubes, and the official language of France?
Mason Barnes grew up in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina, which is widely regarded as one of the east coast’s small wave havens. So you might be wondering, how and/or why has Mason decide to ditch his 5’4″ Dumpster Diver for a 9’6″ rhino chaser?
The Barnes family has a house on Oahu’s North Shore, which from a very young age was the place Mason spent his winters, slowly increasing his comfort-level in sizable surf. Nowadays, Mason has decided to go full-force into the big wave world, becoming an understudy of South Africa’s Grant “Twiggy” Baker.
The clip above showcases some of Mason’s recent highlights in waves big and small – perhaps most notably the OBX tube at 2:22.
