The day is short, the work is plentiful.
When fully electric washing machines entered the home in the 1940s, manufacturers sold them as the emancipation of women from “washday slavery”.
For once, the advertising was not entirely conceited.
One study found that an electric washer could reduce a woman’s washing time from roughly four hours to 41 minutes, while cutting the distance she walked from more than 3,000 feet to around 330.
The benefit of owning a washing machine practically sold itself:
Who would rather not do dull, physically-taxing domestic chores without remuneration?
Short answer: everyone (especially women, who were expected to perform almost all of it).
Today, washing machines and other white goods wash the clothes of an estimated two billion people globally, symbolizing humanity’s partial liberation from scrubbing out stubborn merlot stains and bucketloads of squelching noises.
What it did not replace, however, was responsibility for the laundry.

Surf100: Outer Banks
Pull on the hood, booties and gloves, then pray the seams haven’t split on that trusty 5/4 fermenting in a plastic tub.
The final four surfers chasing $100K head to North Carolina’s Outer Banks for a tube soiree in 3°C/38 F water. Man-on-man heats. Sixty-minute bouts. Loser goes home.

AUGUST
EAST: Harry Bryant
The most requested test pilot in EAST history finally receives his quiver, then darts across Central and South America chasing a promising swell.
Inside the coffin: 10 boards ranging from 5’0” to 8’0”, shaped by a new cohort of foam mowers.
There’s also an orbital sander in there too. You’ll understand soon enough.
Surf100: New Smyrna + Waco
The Surf100 crew appears to have contracted a severe case of East Coast fever.
The final two challenges take place in New Smyrna and Waco, whittling the field down to two surfers after a season of hell, high water and increasingly strange competitive demands.
Will Zeke, Finn, Dimitri or Dakoda earn a head start in the Grand Finale?

Surf100: Grand Finale
After surviving seven brutal challenges, the final two surfers are one 100-minute heat away from a six-figure payday.
The problem? Two heavyweight wildcards are arriving to eat their lunch in pumping surf perfectly suited to their skill sets.

In Virginia Beach, the 19-year-old earned the first Perfect 50 in Stab High history, sending the surf world into a frenzy and forcing our judges to recalibrate their understanding of aerial excellency.
