Italo Just Wants To Get High

An open letter to Mr. Ferreira’s ankles/knees.

You know how NFL players have danger avoidance clauses in their contracts?

If you’re getting paid millions a year to run through people, it makes sense for your team to give a hard no to off-season motorcycle racing. Thankfully, surfing isn’t football, and Billabong isn’t the NFL.

For a reigning world champ such as Italo Ferreira, tow-ats are questionable. Just watch at 0:22, when he nearly tears his back quad off the bone with an irksome front foot slip. Italo can do it all, sure, but with the lion’s share of his competitive success coming from his aerial surfing, a ligament tear could not only change his present but drastically change his future as well. We’ve seen what happened with John...

Although, I guess if you look at Italo being as much of an entertainer as he is an athlete, then you begin to see things in a different light. Italo’s recently been giving himself the title of Creative Director on his self produced edits, and his IG is pretty much a collection of the best small wave surfing the world’s ever seen. There’s no doubt he wants to keep the people excited, the natural progression of which is a ridiculous motor assist board transfer at 3:59.

Italo, we love you, the people love you, you have nothing to prove. Please oh please keep your sinews in place! We’re just two weeks away…
