Give Rolo Montes 18 Waves, He’ll Give You A Reason To Buy A New Surfboard
Canggu rivermouth, meet Dumpster Diver 2.
“When we got all the boards out of the rafters for that film, I rode the original Dumpster Diver a few times in some lackluster waves,” said Dane Reynolds, when the Dumpster Diver 2 was released. “I was blown away that I rode the thing in a contest. Yeah I’m bigger now, but it’s little. Just paddling it feels like a skimboard. That 5’7 with a shortboard nose felt insane.
“But the board felt so light and cool under my arm. I had this idea to use the rocker profile, stretch it out to like 5’10, so it has a little more hold, and give it a more modern nose. That’s the initial idea behind the new Dumpster Diver. We also changed the rail line — I felt like it needed a bit of a break in the rail line around the hip because of the extra length.
“It’s pretty much right between my standard six-foot shortboard and my Neckbeard,” says Dane. “It’s actually kind of replaced the Neckbeard 2 for me. It’s pretty damn good in knee-to-head-high waves. But it handles overhead waves as well. It’s definitely a California-centric board.”
Above, you can watch Puerto Rico’s sturdiest tube magnet Rolando Montes put on a masterclass in finding sections atop his DD2 (at Indonesia’s best impression of a California beachie.)
