How To Win A War Of Words With Kelly Slater

Surely you’re as obsessive a follower of Kelly Slater’s near frenetic social media presence as we are. Following a very terrifying trend of global personalities, internet personae, and world leaders, surfing’s GOAT leaves no social stone unturned, no hot button subject unbreached, which must make his PR wag’s lives nearly untenable, honestly. 

Well, last night Slater found himself very publicly on the receiving end of some very carefully chosen words from an uncharacteristically cutty Nathan Florence, after Slater sent some snark at the young Hawaiian hearthrob.  

Let’s get up to speed: Nathan’s in Indo right now, waiting for what’s shaping up to be an absolutely insane southern hemisphere swell. Last we checked in with him he was headed to Nias with Daniel Russo, the night before Koa Smith’s near skull-crusher. 

Yesterday Nathan tossed up the meaty clip above, of him tailing best pal Billy Kemper through a massive Lagundri Bay tunnel, with the caption: “Crowd got thick enough @billykemper and I had to start sharing barrels… tag whoever you trust to get barreled in front of you!!”

In true GOAT fashion, Kelly sent a sarcastic lil’ rib shot from across the ocean: “I totally trust you to get barreled behind me at backdoor this winter a lot,” to which Nathan immediately lobbed back a grenade—”i can hold your hand through some barrels old timer, like walking a grandpa across the road i got you…”—that not only silenced Kelly, but sent him to his stories to proclaim his “kinda” defeat:

Today, Nathan is probably getting blown out of more barrels in Indo, while Kelly is, well, who knows…
