The best wedge in California does not reside in Newport Beach. Oh no, that dirty old thing is a glorified closeout with a penchant for snapping necks.

But the other wedge, this Wedge Which Shall Not Be Named, is plenty makable and breaks on the exact same swells as its more famous California counterpart.

Yet this wedge is not swarmed by skimmers or spongers or fame-hungry softboarders. It’s not black-balled at 9 AM. It hardly even gets blown out, as the California trades treat it to a neat side-offshore breeze. This is a well-secured enclave of high quality surf, protected by the most powerful locals of them all – the US Armed Forces.

Which is why it doesn’t really matter if we talk about it. You’re not getting in anyways!

Only those connected with the Navy can get a pass to surf, which means if you want to find some true American teepees, you better have a brother, cousin, or Great Aunt Gertrude in the troops.

Jake Kelley is fortunate enough to have one of these connections, or so we’d imagine, as in the surfy short above he spends ample time at the triangle factory. Tubes into cutbacks and airs is pretty much the only game in town, so brace yourself for plenty of that here.
