Ever Seen A Second Reef Backdoor Roll-in?

If you were ever worried about Mother Pipeline, specifically that its new generation of tube-shooters wouldn’t live up to the toughness and aptitude of their Hawaiian forebears, allow Seth Moniz, Josh Moniz, and Benji Brand to caress your temples with some Aloe V.  

In their newest edit “Handodat” – which we would assume is pidgin-speak for “handle that”, which we would assume is millennial nomenclature for “taking life by the horns” – these three lifelong pals, who could make a human Oreo if arranged in the proper sequence, display some of the most fearless and adept Pipeline surfing that can be found today. 

Plenty of guys get one, two, or three memorable Pipe waves per winter – which has historically been good enough to keep a sticker on your beak and a place in the lineup – but the sheer quantity of quality rides between Seth, Josh, and Benji is truly astounding. Keep in mind that Pipeline is a death-defying wave, meaning that every time they paddle out to the lineup, and especially every time they paddle into a wave, the boys would have a little voice in the backs of their heads saying, “Mmmmmm maybe not the best idea…” 

Yet day after day, swell after swell, they’re out there, swinging under the ledge and seeing just how deep they can get in the pit. 

Benji Brand is especially impressive, with his dedication showing through uber-late takeoffs on both lefts and rights, occasionally before the sun comes up (see 5:26) and always inside the pack (see 9:35). He should be genuinely considered amongst the greatest Pipeline surfers in 2019.
