You Don’t Need Fidelity To Make A Good Surf Edit

Who would’ve thought that Sydney’s CBD would make it as a set for a surf film?

Reminiscent of one of Chris White’s Tension bodyboard VHS tapes circa 01, minus the droprolls and public order disturbance, we have for you today, Josh Simpson’s second installment of the Surf Cassette series.

“After turning in huge profits at the premieres we are excited to share our movie online,” wrote the project managers behind the film in a confidential Electronic Mail.

Basically it’s a 37 minute celebration of breaking music license agreements, low fidelity and anyone who is anyone (among other lesser-known gents) in Australian non-competitive surfing, those being Noa Deane, Creed McTaggart, Harry Bryant, Shaun Manners, Beau Foster, Jack Lynch, Craig Anderson, Ozzie Wright, Wade Goodall, Duncan McNicol, Nathan Webster, Taj Burrow Jake Vincent, Jack Irvine and more.

It’s a lengthy viewing experience so here’s a few key timecodes and moments if you’re feeling pressed for time between WIPs and conference calls.

1:32
Harry Bryant goes left a lot, chokes on a beer, snaps a craft and gets incredibly piped.

4:35
An assorted section for cameos from Craig, Taj, Duncan McNicol and more.

9:44
Shaun Manners enters stage left with a brick telephone and an il-fitting 90’s suit

13:24
Some guy named Crowe with a finless, who loses a client and hurls a laptop on the sidewalk somewhere around Martin Place.

14:56
Noa Deane looks fab with slicked hair and a jazzy tie. Any Noa Deane section is a worthy experience, nothing out of the ordinary here.

17:56
Ellis Ericson spends a handful of mins inside various board rooms, locking in client meetings and inside rails.

21:17
Jake Vincent, fast becoming a Stab fave. Dude can hop about and make all kinds of trickery look good.

25:23
Fancy footwork moments with General Manager, Jack Lynch. Jack’s rock solid on a plank and draws a confident, managerial line on shorter glass.

27:20
Beau Foster, because he’s more than entitled to his own section.

29:36
Another gent worth knowing: Jack Irvine, artist and damn decent surfer. The bleached gent from Cronulla get’s called out for pulling back (understandably) on a Shark Island bomb.

32:28
Creed McTaggart, looks more like a distributor of illicit merchandise than an man of honest business, either way his section is high energy and predictably fantastic.
