Jake Kelley Does The Straight Air, The Tube And The Rote
And the Carve!
Home for Jake Kelley (and all other Southern Californians) woke up last weekend. And, although the swell was mostly straight and pictures are worth a thousand “should’ve surfed theres,” the sight of parallel lines stacked to the horizon was moving. While fires burned and are still burning throughout North-Central California leaving behind an apocalyptic wake, those on the coast enjoyed the first overhead run of surf in over a month.
Yesterday, Jake sent us through this clip title LOMO. “Lomo is a style of photography mostly shot on analog cameras with vibrant colors, random candid shots and technical defects,” Jake tells Stab. “Taylor Curren, who edited this clip named it. I let him take over the creative side.”
“I haven’t been surfing around home much recently,” continues Jake. “At least until last weekend, it’s been pretty much flat for the last few months. This summer is the worst summer for surf I can remember in California. Luckily, I snuck away to the east coast and got really fun waves in North Carolina. Before that, I was just surfing County Line around home and other waves around Ventura because it was the only zone breaking. That’s where most of this was filmed.”
