The Puerto Escondido Challenge Runs Tomorrow

“We have made the official call and will start on Monday, July 31 at 7:00 a.m. local time,” says the WSL’s new big wave commish, Mike Parsons. “We have been closely tracking the conditions and have determined that Monday will be the peak of swell and when we will see the biggest surf.” 

Unless there’s been a monumental misread at Surfline HQ, Twiggy, Nathan Florence, Billy Kemper and the rest of heat one will wax their XXL foam first thing tomorrow for the 2017 Puerto Escondido Challenge. Expect your feeds to saturate with men in jerseys, scratching down “25ft” faces, disappearing (sometimes reappearing!) and more often than not, exploding into oblivion. Unpredictability is one addictive substance. 

Now, we’ve just heard word that Greg Long’s knee will prevent him from competing. Disappointing news given his recent form. However the draw is stacked (including Pete Mel in heat two), and we guarantee you’ll be interrupting your office environment throughout the day with spontaneous groans and yelps of awe.
