This December 8 – 20, Koa will face off against 39 opponents for the Vans Pipe Masters title. Full details here.

Koa Smith is all energy — electromagnetic fields, deep breaths, hell-bent on chasing a higher state of consciousness. Can’t blame him, really. When you’ve spent as much time in the tube as him, reality must begin to feel like a letdown, and you’d be forgiven for wanting something more.

Fortunately, Koa lives in the alley of infinite confectionery, where there’s a supplier on every corner. In his latest YouTube clip, he showcases the pretty side of being strung out, indulging in only the finest local goods. No imports here.

“I feel like waves have their own entities. When I approach these places, it’s like I’m approaching an elder — we’ve been through so much together,” says Koa on Instagram. “I approach these entities with reverence and respect, and I’m constantly talking to the place and letting it know how much I appreciate it. When I start off my relationship with that entity in the right way, we begin a dance — we’re working together.”

Whatever Koa’s been sipping — be it mud water, a hero dose of mushies, or a quiet chat with renowned faith healer Dr. Joe Dispenza — he’s obviously thriving, feeling good, and has managed to cultivate a spiritual connection with the inside of a tube.

We’ll take a double shot of whatever he’s having.
