Tom Lowe vs rogue ski, today at Nazarè
The rolling mountainous novelty known as Nazarè lit up today, and Tom Lowe had a close encounter with ski driver and big wave charger, Jamie Mitchell. “Without the ski pick ups and lift outs we wouldn’t be doing this,” Mr Lowe tells Stab. “The waves were around 15 feet with the odd 20 footer. It was mutant lumps breaking in all shapes and forms, mad energy out there. It was hard to find a good one in the chaos. My first wave with Jamie and the ski was nothing gnarly, just a big old roll in. I didn’t see the ski until it was right in front of me. I just saw Jamie’s face locked in slow motion as he bailed, it was trippy.” “I don’t know how he got there,” Tom continues. “I havent spoke to him in detail, but main thing’s everyone’s okay. I bottom turned around him and headed for the beach. All was sweet until I saw the ski in the whitewater and got hit, it rolled over me. My board got smashed pretty bad, but I was all good.” “Oh, then Jamie went out and packed some bombs, what a mad-dog!” Film and Edit by Guy Mac
