Ours (aka Cape Solander, Piker’s Hole, Cape Fear) is Sydney’s most photogenic and most photographed wave. Last Thursday there were more than 30 photogs shooting at some points. It was sure a day to remember. It came to life when the swell went ESE and the direction looked just right. There was much talk of holding the first-ever Cape Fear event. The frames here reveal that it might’ve been the biggest fuck-up of all time that it didn’t go. In reality, it’s a line call. But, if we were watching a live event, there would have been some shockers. At times we faced 40-minute lulls and some heats would have been q u i e t. The problem we’re facing now as we’re into the depths of winter is that swells with enough east push (Ours like the east) become more and more rare. Tomorrow Sydney will be hit by a 12 foot south swell. If we get something like this with more east goodness, the Red Bull Cape Fear could be one of the best surf events of all time.
Anyways, this session here features Mark Mathews (like, d’uh), Richie Vaculik, Ev Faulks, Jughead and others.
