Noa Deane Snags Invite To Shark Island Bodyboarding Event
Surfing’s premiere boog-diplomat reaps rewards of cross-pollination.
There is an ever-growing connection between bodyboarders and the most impactful contemporary surf films.
We’ve spoken in depth about it in pieces like ‘How Bodyboarders Became The World’s Best Surf Cinematographers’ and Andrew Kaineder’s ‘Best Surfing I’ve Ever Seen’.
“They just know the waves, know how to read the charts, they’re just gurus,” explains Craig Anderson of the phenomenon that has seen so many top-line bodyboarders dominating the surf filmmaking game. “They’re so dialled in. It’s the same as a Pipe specialist who is so dialled on a wave. They just know every facet of what they’re doing. Their wave knowledge is second to none.”
At the forefront of this synergy is Noa Deane, who has spent much of his career with an extra boog tossed in the back of his car and a masochistic desire to push the stand-up limits at typically boog only spots.
Yesterday, the Instagram for the Shark Island Challenge announced Noz as a wildcard entry, stating;
“Arguably possessing one of the most impressive multifaceted wave riding resumes on the planet currently, we are stoked to announce that @ilovetables has accepted his invitation to compete in 2024 @bodyboardkingdom Shark Island Challenge.
With phenomenal skills on both the boog and the stand up, Noa’s ability to read the unpredictable nature of the world’s varying oceanic conditions is something to be admired and celebrated. Rarely does a piece of watery ocean meat, a phrase constantly used by the man himself when it comes to waves of consequence, go by in a session that Noa hasn’t successfully torn into and stylishly devoured.
We now wait in anticipation to see what this controversial, yet warranted and deserved wildcard can muster up out the infamous rock shelf known as Shark Island.”
As mentioned, the invite was met with much controversy in the comment section. Worth a read through if you’ve got 15-minutes free and care to chuckle at the meta-politics of niche tuberiding disciples.
“Never thought when I was booging froggies backwash as a Grom on my chapel o+e boog I would end up in the shark island challenge,” wrote Noa. “This is actually bonkers, thank you for this opportunity.”
