Update: Tragically, the bodies of these three victims were discovered today, May 3rd, by Mexican authorities. You can read our update here.

Two Australian brothers: Jake and Callum Robinson, and their friend from San Diego: Jack Carter Rhoad, left to Northern Baja, Mexico a few days ago for a surf trip. They are now considered “missing”.

“They have not contacted us since April 27th,” the mother of the Robinson brothers said. “They are traveling with another friend; an American citizen.”

The boys were hunting for waves about two hours south of Ensenada, camping at Punta San Jose at a familiar spot known as “Lighthouse”.

The trio’s plan, according to the Robinson brothers’ mom, was to camp and surf south of Ensenada for a few days before driving up the coast and staying at an Airbnb in Rosarito. The Robinson brothers’ mom became concerned when she could not contact her sons and when the Airbnb host reported that they never checked into the house.

Furthermore, Jack Rhoad — the San Diegan friend of the brothers — never made it into work as he was scheduled to earlier this week, which seemed to confirm he was missing alongside the brothers.

Mexican police are working with American and Australian authorities to locate the trio and arrest those responsible.

As of a few hours ago, three people have been arrested by local police under suspicion of foul play in the case of the missing surfers. One of the suspects had the missing persons’ phones in their possession, plus a bag of methamphetamine. The missing crew’s pick-up truck was also found burned and abandoned on the side of the road near the camp site. According to this report, blood marks and teeth were found near one of the tents.

A source close to Stab, who has a home near Punta San Jose, told us that this area has been “heating up” in terms of “cartel activity” and that locals have been increasingly aware of gang violence in the towns in and around Punta San Jose.

This is a developing story and we will continue to add updates regarding the trio’s whereabouts and condition.

Though this sign says “K38”, most of the evidence points to the disappearance being near Lighthouse.
