Snapper ain’t looking good for JW

There’s currently a fresh easterly swell gracing the Snapper Superbank.

It’s now just one month out from the year’s first event, the Quiksilver Gold Coast Pro and everyone’s understandably excited. Imagining the likes of Filipe and Julian gracing our eyes and screens for a tutorial in aerial finesse certainly gets the stoke senses tingling.

Then, an afternoon Instagram heartbreaker, Jules had “some not very good news to share”.

He’s injured.

As Jules himself put it, “injuries suck and forced rest is never fun”.

“I’ve come undone on my mountain bike doing some cross-training in Glenrock National Park in Newcastle on Friday evening. I went over the handlebars and landed square on my shoulder, i’ve ruptured the AC joint in my shoulder. It’s extremely uncomfortable, hence the bag of peas”.

This is a huge blow to Jules and will certainly take him out of competing in the Newcastle Surf-Fest, which would’ve been his first even since his recent relocation to the Novocastrian town. The only positive being that the injury “is not going to require surgery”.

Jules didn’t allure to whether this will put him out of the running for a maiden Gold Coast victory, as injuries of this nature are never particularly easy to place a definitive date on.

“There’s no great time frame on the recovery. I’ve just gotta take it one step at a time, I’m in great hands and I’ll be doing everything I can to come back stronger and better than I was before.”

We’re wishing Jules all the best in his recovery in the weeks leading up to Snapper and hoping to see the surfing we’ve come to love from him – sans any niggling shoulder injuries.
