Taj Burrow, Jay Davies And Dino Adrian Release Their ‘Honest Ale’

“Easy to put away in big numbers, but tastes really good as well.” – Taj.

“The name? Well that came from Dino Adrian,” Taj Burrow explains to Stab over the phone. “It just stuck from the start.” He and fellow West Oz pals Jay Davies and Dino Adrian just filled the first glasses of their beverage creation, Honest Ale, hosting an evening at Brewhouse, a Margaret River watering hole. Made by Black Brewing Co. and designed for bulk consumption occasions, where a heavy, hoppy, craft beer might be undesirable, the trio’s brew is a little less aggressive in the flavour and bloating department.

Let’s hand the mic back to TB to introduce the drop.

“I’d say it’s like a summer ale, but a bit more light on, not so fruity and crafty and rich. It’s got the flavours of that but a bit softer. It’s easy to drink. You can even drink in warm if you need to. Good if you’re camping, fishing, surfing or going out into the desert, its just kind of a West Oz beer. We picture it being in a can kind of like Emu Export, whatever activity you’re doing for the day, just picture an esky full of them and being able to drink them like water.”

Perks of hosting the release in Margaret River during the CT, there’s plenty of recognisable heads on hand to play guinea pig.

And the backstory?

“The boys that are brewing it are Black Brewing Co., which is a brewery down here where we go quite a bit for a beer and lunch. We got to meet the brewer, Paul Gasmier, and the rest of the scene and they just gave us an opportunity to make a beer that we like, one that we want to drink. We were just so excited so we kind of went through the whole process, because I don’t know much about beer other than what I like to drink. That’s changed dramatically in the last few weeks – I’ve learned so much. The brewer is such a mad scientist, he’s an absolute weapon, pretty much hit it on the head first brew.”

When asked about the future plans for Honest Ale, Taj admitted that the trio were planning on taking it slow – it is their first time after all.

“We’re just taking it easy to start with and just hoping people like it. We’re going to give a few crew samples. I don’t know the business side of it just yet, we’re just hoping people to like it to start with and then we’ll see what happens.”
