The Surfer Who Lost His Leg To A Shark On Tuesday Died In The Hospital
First shark attack fatality in WA since 2014. Rest in peace sir.
The 29 year-old surfer, Ben Gerring, who lost his leg at Falcon Beach, Mandurah on Tuesday died in the hospital overnight.
His death is the first shark fatality in WA since December 2014.
Ben while waiting for a wave with his buddies was attacked from behind and mauled. The WA Department of Fisheries stated that the damage to Ben’s board was indicative of a great white.
Following the attack a cull was called and a large great white died in a drum line off Falcon Bay, just a day later. The call was highly controversial and there’s no way to be certain if the animal caught and killed was the culprit to Ben’s fate. Now, it seems very “eye for an eye”. However, that’s besides the point.
Our hearts go out to Ben’s family and friends. Rest in Peace sir.
