Uh, Bede Durbidge fractured his pelvis in two places

On his first wave of the day this morning at the Pipe Masters, Bede Durbidge fell out of the lip and went face first over the rail. He was then dragged up the face, and went over the falls, the lip forcing him into the lava. His board washed in and from moment he surfaced, it was clear he was in a bad way. The safety patrol pulled him onto the ski, and he was carried up the beach screaming. Kieren Perrow just informed the webcast that, having gone to hospital and taken x-rays, Bede has in fact fractured his pelvis… in two places. Take a minute to think about that. “Definitely wasn’t the way I wanted to finish the season,” wrote Bede on Instagram. “I ended up fracturing my pelvis and displacing it. I’m going under the knife in a few hours to get plates put in the front and back. Thanks to the water patrol and doctors at the event for taking care of me. Also my wife , family and friends for all the support and love. What doesn’t kill you only makes you stronger.” Recovery time for that kind of injury isn’t quick. Good luck to Bede in bouncing back.
