Tender Is The Night

Last night Stab had the responsibility of opening night party of the Quiksilver Pro with Quiksilver. There were many things we could talk about: the weather (it poured), the Carlton Dry (it poured), the bro shakes (they pawed – sorry!), but the only thing worth talking about was Dane Reynolds. And his girl Napkin Apocalypse. Forget the four gals we paid to dress in retroglam tennis outfits in a roped-off area, it’s all about Dane Reynolds. The best thing that could happen was to get stuck in a conversation in the general vicinity of Dane. You weren’t in conversation but were in fact a piece of bait to lure Dane in. There was no engaged conversation and you could see the glances across your shoulder, hopeful for the chance of a conversation with the Venturan. Craig Anderson was also there, fresh back from two days in Tahiti and closely flanked by Morgan Maassen. Laura Enever, Monyca Byrne-Wickey, Kelia Moniz, Lakey Peterson (and her hot big sister), Sage Erickson (and her hot brother) all delighted with their presence. DJ Eddy, in the Echo Beach persona (from his arsenal of seven), warmed the room up with jams like Fly Like An Eagle, then kept it pulsing with an Australian-themed power set (a jacked-up Thunderstruck, among others). Then everyone disappeared out into the rain to promo parties or each other’s beds. And this morning the competitors stood overlooking the point, warming up for expression sessions on their exercise bikes, eating fruit and hydrating, totally unaware of the debauch their area had been soiled with the previous evening.
