Kolohe Andino wins the Allianz Billabong Pro Cascais

Kolohe Andino has won the Billabong Pro Cascais. The event was held at the back-up location of Praia de Guincho and it was a fucking blood bath. In the final Mr Andino came out of the gates sword underfoot, he dug into Caio Ibelli in wonky four to five foot surf with a 7.67. Caio had been cut, deep but not too. He still had the chance for recovery. Bleeding Caio scrapped into 7.10. A gory exchange of lower scoring waves took place. With five minutes left both opponents were wounded, Kolohe mustered up the remaining fight in him blasting two clean carves and a vertical dagger for a 8.90. It was too late for the former World Junior Champion Mr Ibelli and Brother was the victor. Kolohe takes a step further to requalification for the tour next year with the win. He currently sits 29th in the rankings. “The tide dropped a lot and it was really hard to find the right waves, but I was patient and got that 8 so I’m stoked,” Kolohe told the WSL. “My arm was kind of cramped up when I was duckdiving, I’m so exhausted the paddleouts were ridiculous. Now I’m on tour pretty much guaranteed so hopefully I can surf the two events coming up freely.” Final:1 – Kolohe Andino 16.572 – Caio Ibelli 11.97 Semi’s:Heat 1: Kolohe Andino 18.30 def.
