Jet-Ski Wipeouts, Loony Spectators, and Nervous CT Surfers
A cinema verité look at what the Eddie was like for Zeke Lau and the Moniz fam
Considering how prestigious the Eddie Aikau Invitational is, it makes sense that there were nearly as many cameras at Waimea as there were people. No doubt, the stream of content that comes out of this single day will be enough to fill entire days of mindless YouTube scrolling.
Aside from Ep 5 of The Pick-Up presented by Vans, this clip from Summer Street just might be our favorite Eddie coverage yet.
It has it all — a confused, sunburnt white guy talking about Jesus and bikinis, some jet ski’s going over the falls multiple times, and a rare look at nervous professional surfers.
This might be the only time you’ll ever hear Zeke Lau ask incredulously “we’re paddling out? no way…”
The hesitancy with which these top level guys approach the Waimea shorebreak really gives perspective to the weight of the contest — and the feathering liplines.
Click for a deep dive into a historical day of destruction.
