Wasn’t too long ago (a coupla days, in fact) that fingers were furiously slamming keyboards in protest or criticism over the first-ever, completely landed kickflip on a surfboard. Seems there was a monstrous, love/hate divide: half were thrilled with Zoltan Torkos for having landed a move that has, for so long, seemed impossible on a surfboard; the other half were disgusted that anyone’d even attempt to desecrate their surfboard with such an impure, forward-thinking manoeuvre.
Volcom, a company who’ve forever had a love affair with skate-inspired surfing, posted up $10k for the first person to successfully complete the board-flip. When Zoltan entered the above clip, Volcom said no, it don’t count: According to the rules, it’s gotta be above the lip.
After a few days’ deliberation and reconsideration, Volcom have now decided that the flip is indeed worthy of the $10k, and will be flipping a cheque to Zoltan.
