A (Relatively Harmless) Night At The Volcom House

Celebrating next year’s Rookie of the Year, Yago Dora!

Last night the Volcom boys took the opportunity to throw a proper North Shore BBQ, in honor of their young cub, Brazilian goofyfoot flyboy Yago Dora, qualifying for next year’s World Tour.

Being as we were drinking in the name of one of Brazil’s brightest young stars, Yago’s South American posse turned out in full force, a generous flow of beers being trucked in, a dangerously steady flow of caipirinhas, as well as a six-hour-long parade of grilled steak and sausage and brisket and Jah-only-knows what other flame-kissed delicacies, straight from the caring hands of Tai Vandyke and Yago’s pops and coach, Leandro, a former pro surfer who coached Ricardo Dos Santos before his death, and the guy many attribute Adriano De Souza’s World Title to, ADS winning the first year Leandro was on the job coaching him, after nine years struggling on tour.

Most of the night was spent chewing perfect pieces of steak, watching babes dance with the international assembled crew (who came after these photos were taken), chatting with Mitch Coleborn, Balaram Stack, Danny Fuller, Charley Quivront, Gony Zubizaretta, Aritz Aranburu and a million visiting females, before Yago popped some corks and got some proper Brazilan beats going.

Masticating happily, our dear friend Steven Allain, of the recently launched MOIST, Brazil’s premiere source for surf, and digital indigenous home of James B.) commented on Stab’s reader’s disdain for what very well may be next year’s dominant World Tour nationality, that we very may well hate Brazilians?

Do you? Do we? Of fucking course not. Don’t be absurd. I mean, Yago was one of our favs years before his Psychic Migration ender put him on the international map. How can you not love the spry goofy’s approach? Besides our clear California allegiance to young Griffin Colapinto, if we were gambling men our money might very well be on Yago for next year’s Rookie of the Year.

Scroll through the gallery above, shot by Sam Moody, for a look at the celebration.
