This Is The Best Female Longboarder In The World

Success doesn’t exist in a vacuum. Just ask Honolua Blomfield, who wouldn’t be the face of modern women’s longboarding without the backing of her family. 

You likely know Honolua as a three-time world longboard champion at the age of just 23 (!!!) While she’s gained worldwide acclaim for her titles, surfing is more than jersey-deep for the young Hawaiian. It’s in her blood. In a new short from O’Neill Women’s division, we get an in-depth look at what makes the Blomfield family tick. There’s plenty of world-class surfing here too, as Honolua threads Mexican lefts and smooth Haleiwa rights with inimitable style and grace.

But the crux of this feature is about the ohana (family) made up of the big ekolu (three). There’s mom, Lyne, and younger sister, Kula. Honolua’s love of the ocean came from her mom, who followed her own surfing dreams on Oahu. While waiting onshore as a toddler for her mom to finish her session, little Honolua just couldn’t wait to get going. She hopped on the nose of her mom’s board and never looked back.  

“I have so many memories of those two catching waves,” Lyne says. “When you love surfing… and you see your daughters surfing together, that just fills my heart.”
