Which Obvious Favorite Is Paying Huge Returns On Pipe Finals Day?

Billy Kemper knows hit shit.

There is one more day of competition at the Billabong Pro Pipeline.

From the waves to the performances to the fresh faces on tour, CT #1 has exceeded all expectations. It’s also made us some money.

For this event, we’ve partnered with the folks at BetOnline.ag, who have made surf betting available to Americans for the first time in memory. And we’ve had a good run.

Since going 0-4 on the first day (damn those three-man heats), we’re 9 for 11 on individual heat winners.

Overall, we’re up $132 from our starting investment of $500. On top of that, we got a little boost in our account when a friend used our referral link to set up their own BetOnline profile. For those who like truly favorable odds, this is probably the easiest way to make money on surf-betting.

There’s only one day left in the Pipe event, which means you have one last opportunity to pick winners on the men’s and women’s sides of the draw — and there’s one heat that’s definitely worthing betting on.

In the video below, Pipe expert and BetOnline.ag advocate Billy Kemper gives you his picks for Finals day.

Use them, abuse them, and hopefully doesn’t lose them.

Here’s one thing we can all agree on. Photo: WSL/Heff

Billy’s Picks

Men’s Quarters: Kelly Slater (-180) over Kanoa Igarashi (+140), John Florence (-250) over Seth Moniz (+170), Miguel Pupo (-180) over Lucca mesinas (+140)

Women’s Semis: Carissa Moore (-500) over Lakey Peterson (+300), Moana Jones Wong (+105) over Tyler Wright (-145)

Potential underdog winners: Seth Moniz (+170), Samuel Pupo (+100)

As a reminder, “+150” next to a surfer’s name means that if you risk $100 on a bet, you’ll make $150 in earnings. The non-favorite, according to the betting agency, typically has a “+” attached to their odds.

Meanwhile, “-150” next to surfer’s name means that you need to risk $150 to make $100. The favorite, according to the betting agency, typically has a “-” attached to their odds.

So, in order to make $100 betting on Carissa (-500) beating Lakey (+300) in the first semi, you’d need to risk $500. To make that same return on Moana (+105) beating Tyler (-145) in semi two, you’d need to risk just $95.25.

With the forecast calling for pumping surf, and the women’s abilities widely known, it should be obvious where the smart money lies.

Gotta give it to the odds-makers — these are not easy to pick.

My Picks

Men: The way the odds are set (see above), I don’t feel confident picking any of these heats. So I’m leaving them alone.

Women: I put $100 on Moana (+105) to win over Tyler (-145) for a potential win of $105. This is my biggest single bet of the week, but I feel it’s justified given the odds and forecasted conditions.

Earlier in the week, I also placed the following bets on people to win the entire event (the odds have since changed). Many of them have lost, but I still have hope for a big payout in the end:
– $55 on Moana Jones at +800. (Potential win: $440)
– $15 on Carissa Moore at +200 (Potential win: $30)
– $15 on Tyler Wright at +300 (Potential win: $45)
– $50 on John Florence at +250 (Potential win: $125)
– $45 on Jack Robinson LOST
– $15 on Leonardo Fioravanti LOST
– $10 on Carlos Muñoz LOST
– $5 on Leonardo Fioravanti LOST

So uhh…go Moana and John!

But also go Kelly, money aside.

Get amongst the fun here.
