The area of Casuarina was formerly known as Cudgen. It used to be a sand-mining area before it was bought by an Asian developer with grand plans. He payed $30 million for something that was worth around five or six million, later to regret his decision, fearing that he had spent a large amount on little more than a pile of dirt.

Eventually the area was developed and is now worth far more than what the businessman originally paid. Casuarina has become a wealthy beachside village community. But if you’re thinking of buying there, leave your dream home plans where they are – each house in Casuarina must be of a specific architectural design, and there’s about five styles of house to choose from. Take solace in the knowledge that your house will be “A modern interpretation of the quintessential Australian beach house”.

A while back we mentioned that some Stab cohorts’ve been into tight, 90’s-style action shots lately. This shot of Louis Gervais at Casuarina is a step in that direction. On this day, photog Simon Muirhead woke up three hours late for the three hour mission to Iluka. He ended up meeting Dane Hamilton, Rico Sunakawa, Dylon Hunt and Loius here at Dbah, before deciding to head to Casuarina. The southerly wind had kicked-in by the time they arrived, making a good cross-shore wind for the lefts and a few small ramps. Everyone was keen except for Simon.
