For the second year in a row, John Florence and Carissa Moore are the digital Vans Triple Crown of surfing champions, proving their dominance at Haleiwa, Sunset, and Pipe.

Over the course of four weeks, John and Carissa submitted the six highest-scoring clips at the three Triple Crown locations, each winning $50,000 (plus some bonus cash) in the process.

As far as their competition goes, there were 95 surfers in the event, 40% of which were local Hawaiians.

320 total waves uploaded over the four-week window, and only 25 surfers met the full list of criteria (2 waves submitted at each location, one of which on a Progressive Craft) to be in Triple Crown contention.

79% of the total $223,000 prize purse was won by Hawaiian surfers, with Moore earning $66,500 individually — the most any single surfer could possibly win in this event.

As far as individual locations go, John Florence won at Haleiwa and Sunset but got third at Pipeline to Billy Kemper and winner Crosby Colapinto — a huge coup by the 20-year-old San Clementine, proving that John is, in fact, beatable on home soil.

Official men’s results:
– Haleiwa: 1. John Florence. 2. Barron Mamiya. 3. Griffin Colapinto
– Sunset: 1. John Florence. 2. Barron Mamiya. 3. Nate Florence
– Pipeline: 1. Crosby Colapinto. 2. Billy Kemper. 3. John Florence
Overall: 1. John Florence. 2. Crosby Colapinto. 3. Barron Mamiya (find the full standings here)

On the women’s side, Carissa Moore won at all 3 Vans Triple Crown locations, proving that she’s not only the most complete female surfer in the world (see her recent World Title and Olympic gold medal), but also on the North Shore of Oahu. Even the Pipeline Queen, Moana Jones, couldn’t get one over the pre-GOAT.

Official women’s results:
– Haleiwa: 1. Carissa Moore. 2. Gabriela Bryan. 3. Zoe McDougall
– Sunset: 1. Carissa Moore. 2. Brisa Hennessy 3. Gabriela Bryan
– Pipeline: 1. Carissa Moore. 2. Moana Wong. 3. Coco Ho.
Overall: 1. Carissa Moore. 2. Brisa Hennessy. 3. Zoe McDougall (find the full standings here)

Vans also gave $1500 to each of the Triple Crown fan vote winners — these are the surfers who you (the public) voted for most. That would be the stylish Brazilian, Tomas Hermes, and once again, Carissa Moore for the women.

Lastly, Vans wanted to reward the people who made their digital Triple Crown possible — the surf filmers. The following folks will be receving a healthy cash injection for their hours toiling in the sun and sand:

  • For capturing the most female waves during Triple Crown, the videographer award goes to Layne Stratton.
  • For the female videographer who captured the most clips overall, the videographer award goes to Anna Hermes.
  • For the male videographer who captured the most clips overall, there is a tie on filming of mens waves between Erik Knutson and Guillem Cruells.

Check your inboxes, red-button tappers, and claim your reward.

That’s it for the 2022 digital Vans Triple Crown of surfing — until next year!
