Ainara Aymat Honors Her Lost Love In ‘Eterno’

“Dedicated to Oscar, for being the soul of this very special project.”

Ainara Aymat is a professional surfer from Spain’s Basque region.

She’s quiet, funny, and has a genuine spirit. As anyone who challenged her at Stab High knows, she’ll also kick your ass in a game of chess.

Ainara grew up surfing competitively, but a few years back decided it was no longer her passion, and she’s been traversing the globe with a fresh quiver of Pukas ever since.

Back in May of 2021, Ainara joined us at Stab High Central America as one of our five judges. Following that project, she decided to stay in Central America, traveling with her partner Oscar Serra Buque from Nicaragua to Mexico, surfing along the way.

The edit above, ‘Eterno’, was filmed throughout their Nicaragua trip, from Popoyo in the south to the Boom up north. The waves were decent, the surfing is great, but for Ainara, this piece means something much more.

After leaving Nicaragua and arriving in Puerto Escondido, Ainara’s partner Oscar paddled out at the famed Mexican beach break and never returned.

For Ainara, ‘Eterno’ is a way of immortalizing Oscar’s life and spirit.

She also wrote a short poem to go along with the film, which you can read below.

“ETERNAL” (English version)

A story that doesn’t follow any thread,
somewhat confused and chaotic, like life itself.
A couple of weeks in Nicaragua,
where we spent more hours in the car than in the water,
from Popoyo to the Boom and back down.
Waves were not on our side,
but it was such an amazing trip anyways.
A project that we bring to light with an immense emptiness in our chest
and a pain that turns into eternal love.
Dedicated to Oscar,
for being the soul of this very special project
and for leaving a transcendental energy.
RIP Oscar Serra Buqué
