Joel Parkinson Riding Kalani Robb’s Skimboard At Kelly’s Wavepool

Is the best thing we’ve seen today.

Who says the old dogs can’t learn new tricks?

Well, here’s something fun: Joel Parkinson, shredding Kalani Robb’s skimboard at Kelly’s Wave Pool, as filmed by Mick Fanning (who you can hear freaking the fuck out at like the five-second mark).

While there’s been an outpouring since Kelly’s great reveal in 2015,  from fans hoping to see Tom Curren or Brad Domke sliding their brains out, finless or semi-finned on a skimmer, it’s pretty damned impressive to see ol’ Parko putting what looks like a tricky little steed through its paces:

“The idea was to create a skimboard with training wheels that I could start to learn that feeling that skimmers like Brad Domke and Blair Conklin have mastered without fins,” Kalani tells Stab. “super loose, super fast, super fun.”

Which, Blair Conklin was quick to fire back: “Can’t wait until the first finless skimboard graces this beautiful wave, Kelly Slater.”

After watching Parko—who looks damned polished, but let’s be fair isn’t exactly a spring chicken—on the slippery little thing, the mind reels at the possibilities of one of these under some uber progressive surfers, or, some actual skimboarders.

Shuv-its in the tube? Crazy lip-slide combos? In-the-tube-rotations? We’re sure Bill Bryan, Domke and the boys have been daydreaming lines, combos, total finless madness.
