Podcast: What Does Our Version Of A “Dream Tour” Look Like?

Radical upheaval is the order of the day.

What would our version of a surfing “dream tour” look like?

That’s the question Stace G and I attempted to answer on the latest Stab CUSP ep, in which we discuss the WSL’s recent structural changes and the opportunities that exist in their wake.

Essentially, their options are endless. So why not think pie in the sky?

My dream tour would require a radical upheaval of the status quo, chopping the men’s tour in half to allow for two-day, strike-mission-style events at the world’s best waves (a la the Big Wave Tour-that-is-no-longer-a-tour).

This would decrease production costs for the WSL, increase viewer interest, and maximize surfer performance—as far as I can tell, the only losers would be the back half of the men’s tour.

Sorry not sorry.

Stace’s ideas are more retrospective, pairing the ASP’s old round-robin approach to the current overlapping heat strategy, creating fast-paced, full-throttle events with a greater number of surfers.

Hear us out above, and cast a stone (or drop your own theory) in the comments.

The WSL is genuinely interested in hearing the public’s opinion on this matter, so speak now or forever hold your peace.
