An Honest West Oz Roady With A Handful Of Lesser Known Gents

Who prove they can hold their own in heaving left handers.

It’s a lengthy piece, coming in just shy of half an hour, but judging by the quality of waves Jake Edwards, Nick Muntz, Jack Chalis and Josh Cattlin scored during their 37 day stint in the West Oz desert, it must’ve been a hard batch for the boys to trim down in the edit bay.

Now, those names mightn’t ring any bells, but this is a feel-good adventure flick, with waves of exceptional quality. It’s a formula for the hellman’s roady; complete with BBQs, tins, tents and gorgeous blue tubes.

“I lost 6kgs from a stomach virus and shat myself three times while surfing,” Nick told Stab after the fact. “But I still managed to survive the entire duration of the trip – it may have been the sickest I have ever been.

“People generally thought Josh was going to kill himself, he took so many beatings on bombs and had so many crazy wipeouts. He snapped six out of the seven boards he had. Eventually he was riding a 5’8 groveller when it was eight plus feet and still made tubes.”

While there are a few slashes and jabs at the lip, Desert Blue is a clip for the tube aficionados, those who’ll drive hours into nothingness for the chance to slip inside something special.

There’s a banging soundtrack behind it all too, just don’t tip off the licensing police.
