There’s So Much More To Onboard Store Than Merricks

And you don’t even have to go in, unless you want to…

When most people think of Onboard store they think racks full of fresh Merricks.

Whilst that’s brand awareness that any self-respecting surf shop would be happy with, it does rather sell the Onboard fleet (four stores qualifies as a ‘fleet’) short, as there’s a hell of a lot more shiny gear on their shelves – of the surfboard variety and otherwise – than the wares of Santa Barbara’s most famous shaping export.

Leafing through their site (which is new, btw), what becomes apparent is that Onboard’s the place in Australia to get things that you mightn’t be able to elsewhere. A full set of Christensons? Pretty sure the only way to get one of those if you’re in Oz is to fly to America, knock on Chris Christenson’s door and then pay the extortionate international shipping fees six months later when your name gets to the top of the waiting list. The same goes for Tokoros (hey, there’s a reason the pros pay for them when they’re in the islands) as there’s a full selection available in store, or within a few clicks and a quick scan of the cc.

It’s easy to forget that you can order every surfboard accessory you’ve ever dreamed of online and it’ll arrive on your doorstep in a matter of days. The teenage trauma of driving around with Mum desperately trying to find grub screws/the tail pad you wanted/fins that fit your new craft etc. isn’t easily shaken, but you can easily quell your surf ptsd at It’s curated too, so you don’t have to wade through pages and pages of grip and fins you’d be embarrassed to attach to your crafts. Taking grip as a case study, we’ve got Astro Deck, CI and Octopus, in black and cream exclusively.

We’re not going to dive further into the Onboard stock room (they’ve got the Vans booties, fyi), but you get the point. If you’ve a taste for the finer things in surf and are 2019 in your shopping habits, then we’d highly giving the cyber racks a breeze through.

The curated digital surf store of your dreams lives here.
