Watch: A Very Active Weekend In Coffs Harbour And Byron Bay

The Summer Sessions entourage is back out east and keeping busy with after hours entertainment.

We departed Perth Airport just over a fortnight ago and the past weekend saw the first of the East Coast’s Summer Sessions gigs, presented by Summer Bright, kick off with more free shows, coastal wanderings and a few too many sunset bevs – we ain’t complaining.

Yes, it was once again time to hit the road. We bundled our esky into the boot, slid our sleds in a jigsaw-like fashion and moved in the direction of Coffs Harbour. We arrived to junky, yet workable swell, a few residual memories from the first weekend and a tonne of anticipation for the two nights ahead.

We linked up with our muso talent; Alex Lahey and The Belligerents, before paying the Big Banana a visit for a couple of selfies with the iconic piece of fruit. We didn’t want to miss the first supports, Bored Shorts, so next it was straight to the Hoey Moey for the first night of jigging and jiving.

After the sunrise dust-off and a few uninspiring surf checks, we were tapping cruise control on the highway heading north. Next stop, Byron Bay; Australia’s hippy capital and home to overpopulated point breaks and the occasionally idyllic right-hander. Our heads were spinning.

The swell wasn’t minimal, but we made the most of it. The crowd was thin, thanks to Cyclone Gita, who lit the place up barely two weeks prior. We dialled up local log enthusiast Jack Lynch, who made the most of the quiet runners rolling down the line towards Clarks. He joined us, along with the bands for a dig through the record store, before the first sounds emanated from the Brewery’s PA. Coby Perkovich and Mitch Crews met us at the venue, to quench a thirst acquired from weeks of competitive events and swell chasing escapades. We didn’t need any convincing to follow suit.

And the hi-fi surf action spliced in above? Well that was a little something we had on hand from Mr Matt Banting’s recent time spent in and around the Coffs Harbour region. Pop the top and relive another over indulgent weekend!
