Watch: Tom Dosland free-falls out of a Jaws lip!

Video by Davin Phelps  Today, Surfline posted a sequence of a man falling out of the lip at Jaws, naming Dean ‘Dingo’ Morrison as the victim. If you work in the biz, you’ll know these things happen (very occasionally…). But, the problem with a mistake like this in 2016 is, once you post it on Instagram – which Surfline did – what follows is a flurry of reposts, all tagging Dingo. That is, until, Dingo posted the shot himself with the caption: “Hahahaha this is my good friend @tommyd_4 everyone thinks its me but its my main man TommyD…. Thanks for all the shout outs.” Anyway… here’s Tom Dosland, a true legend, falling out of a brutal lip at Jaws today on yet another thumping El Nino swell. The footage, captured by Davin Phelps, gives you the full impression of just how far Tommy fell before contact. “It was just a gnarly day, too big to paddle into the sets,” says Davin. “It seemed like 90 percent of the waves out there went unridden, and there were about 50 guys out. No one had caught a wave in like 20 minutes and then Tom went for this one. Looks like he would have had it if he gave it a couple more strokes (laughs).” Bravo Mr Dosland, bravo.
