Quik and Pacifico Combine To Create The Souvenir Tee Of Surf Trip Dreams

Collabs? Completed ‘em mate.

Poured in partnership with Quiksilver & Pacifico.

There’s been some unlikely, improbable (at times unfathomable!) collabs over the last decade, but Pacifico x Quiksilver sure isn’t one of them.

Bound by the ethos of: “Warm waves, cold beers” (simple, effective, etc) the surf OG and Mexico’s most refined cerveza export have combined for a limited run of fun surf-themed garms that’re set to become future vintage-classics.

There are few men alive more apt at sliding Mex points and slurping cervezas than Andy Nieblas.

You don’t need us to tell you that there’s been ample beer companies over the years who’ve attempted (with levels of success varying from a whimper to global conquests) to piggyback the surfing lifestyle to sunset-toasting success. However, Pacifico’s coastal props are legit. And not just because of the name — although that’s in there too.

Nothing wrong with simple, effective messaging.

The Pacifico yarn’s a good one. Handful of German blokes wash up on the Pacific coast of Mexico in the last year of the 19th century, dreaming of hops that could successfully convey the sights, smells and general breezy vibes of their windswept and adopted home. They started a brewery a block from the beach called the “Cervecería del Pacifico”, and set about creating a drop that subsequently became a local hit, especially among the fisherman, and eventually, the travelling surfers that began drifting into town.

The Straight Leg 19″ = a no nonsense trunk, with a no nonsense name made for no nonsense surfing.

Now traveling surfers in the global age have had no small effect on the popularity and visibility of various local beers from around the world. The Indonesian/surfing cultural phenom Bintang, being perhaps the most obvious. However, surfers generally did their drinking in said foreign countries, left with a tee-shirt and subsequently romanticized the qualities of the local nectar whilst drinking their own back home.

Griff C’s modern take on a timeless combination (surf ‘n suds).

Apart from Mexico, where due to the country sharing a land border with the US, and travelers spilling over the border in smoke-billowing vans, surfers were actually able to take Mexican beers back with them and hand them out for max cool points at SoCal parties in the 60s and 70s. Thus how Pacifico was initially introduced to the US market.

A tidy three pack covering all the bases of headgear style.

This leads us nicely to the range, which is the Quik design team’s attempt at embalming the archival trip of a lifetime to their beloved Mexico. The tees are the first thing to catch the eye. The Quik gang have even managed to reference multiple eras through the topwear, ensuring that the range doesn’t stray into parody.

The ‘sunshine’ Baja Arch tee in all it’s “Golden Boy” glory.

The Signage and Search for Beauty tees are a nice nod to the 70s, with a scenic graphics inspired by empty points and the hand-painted signs that point in their direction. Moving through the racks, the Raglan’s a nice variation on the 70s(ish) baseball tee your dad might’ve picked up on his trip to Mex back in the day, and then the Baja Arch — in both shades, but particularly the ‘sunshine’ colour, is just vintage store graphic perfection. Baja Arch + a couple of year’s of wash cycles = soft, faded sartorial love affair.

Griff discussing crisp tees, crisp crafts and clean lines yet to come.

There’s two pairs of 19” trunks: the Scallop’s if you’re into prints – the pattern gracing the Scallop being the Quik design crew’s take on the striking Talevera tiles found throughout Mex (with a Quik x Pacifico twist). Then the utilitarian Straight Leg 19” if you’re into a more murdered-out feel (with sticker-slapped logos). Furthermore, there’s headgear that’s got you covered no matter what style best suits your dome, the Sandy Cerveza being our personal favourite.

Three contrasting approaches, one shared history of waves and suds.

We love a good collab, but more than that we love a good story. And Quiksilver staffers, warehousers, team riders and GMs have been sneaking down to Mex to slip down right points and suckle cervezas since they opened the doors to the US shop in 1976. And long may it continue. Here, here!

Come celebrate the symbiotic relationship between warm waves and cold beers here.
