Photolyfe: Liam MacDonald
Ten moments with the 20 year-old Tofino lensman.
Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
A few weeks back, Liam MacDonald‘s name appeared in Stab’s submissions inbox. Accompanying kind words and a well mannered introduction were a string of attachments – all shot in Canada and all worthy of a share button. With all its amorous landscape glory, it’s rare for any moment captured in the Tofino area not to seduce, though, it was clear through these frames that Liam has a talented eye, particularly for a 20 year-old. Acknowledging this, we had him on for our Q&A program.
“For the past two years I’ve been working closely with the local pro surfers of Tofino, as well as some other pros from around the world,” Liam explained in his introductory words. “My work generally focuses on surf exploration, particularly boat and air access waves north of Tofino. Being the youngest surf photog in the area most of my work has been sold to sponsors as advertisements and I haven’t yet done much work for editorials.”
