Photolyfe: Jordan ‘Nugget’ Keir
A lensman of all disciplines.
Welcome to PhotoLyfe, in which Stab’s favourite photographers answer questions about themselves with their own images. It’s that old picture-tells-a-thousand-words chestnut but with more colour and pop. It’s a way to cut out all the bullshit. It’s like jacking into the main vein of those who supply us with exquisite surf imagery every day. Give thanks by studying each image with a more careful eye than ever!
It wasn’t 24 year-old Jordan Keir’s still photography that initially caught Stab’s eye. In fact before a few months ago, we never even knew that the man behind ‘Nugget Film’s’ (now Nugget Studios) was into the inanimate side of things. It was the edits he was dropping like clockwork anytime the Gold Coast lit up, that put him on Stab’s radar. Since then we’ve feature his work in Stab Cinema anytime he’d hit the upload button. Now he’s on the WSL’s payroll, on-call chasing action whenever the forecast beckons.
Recently Jordan moved into our Bondi hood and swung by to catch up, bringing with him a handful of clips from a Kirra supersession, as well as some still frames he’d been clicking over the years. We had our next Photolyfe subject.
“I starting shootings stills along with making videos back in 2014,” he told Stab, handing over the files. “I worked and traveled as a freelance trying to make a name for myself in the surf industry. Now I couldn’t live a day without a camera and I really hope to one day be known as one of the best and pass my knowledge onto others who want to do better.”
