First Look: Kelly Slater’s OuterKnown, Autumn 2015

Kelly Slater and John Moore’s OuterKnown brand has been a long time coming. The surfing world has followed Kelly’s post-Quiksilver trajectory with great interest, after he taught us that diamonds aren’t forever by parting ways with his 23-year sponsor in April 2014. Outerknown has been growing hydroponic-style beneath the Kering Group umbrella ever since, and is finally about to flower. Kelly’s biz partner John Moore, who was named American GQ Best New Menswear Designer for his surf lifestyle label M.Nii in 2015, may be “hesitant to define it as luxury,” but there’s some incredible pieces in the debut range. The Crossing Coat, Passport Pullover and Traveller Cords are highlights. John was trill when he said that “brands like Acne and APC would be great company.” And of course, given Mr Moore’s specialty in the area, all the trunks are sure to be amazing.
