As a surprisingly robust south-southwest groundswell extinguished California’n’s burning desires this weekend, a significant portion of longboarding’s best descended on First Point Malibu to dust off for the Relik Pro.

With a ten-day waiting period and 75k on the line (split three ways, with an equal purse for men’s and women’s), the Relik has been able to make quite a statement for the viability of high profile, international longboard events in Los Angeles, Malibu delivering the goods all weekend and now this morning for Final’s Day.

French photographer Julien Roubinet—who now happily calls Los Angeles home with his wife, after several years holed up in New York City, working on his Ice Cream Headaches project—came back with these images from the first day of competition. (Above: Reilly Stone, Andy Nieblas, Karina Rozunko, Jared Mell, Justin Quintal.)
