Filipe Toledo Is Out For Blood

A G-Land post mortem x El Sal super-pod.

World number one Filipe Toledo was not happy with the scores he received in the quarterfinals of the G-Land CT — a heat he ultimately won.

After splashing water on his final wave and verbally accosting the judges on from 500 meters away, Flip paddled over to Strider and released his frustration to a more proximal source.

“He was spitting fire,” Strider recounted. “Even though Filipe won the heat, the passion he showed after — he was basically yelling and screaming. Then he looked over at me and went, ‘You know, I had to work unbelievably hard to get over a five’ — he basically felt like he was being underscored. So he was voicing his opinion and he was letting it out. I love the passion these guys show.”

Filipe made it to the beach, still boiling.

“It’s hard to get it done when the scores are going like this,” the World Number One said in his post-heat interview. “I don’t know what else I can do. I don’t know what’s going on. All I can do is keep trying my best. Here we go again, in the semis. Two Brazilians—” [WSL broadcast cuts out].

“Oh he’s fired up,” said Ronnie from the commentators’ suite.

Fired up indeed. And that was before losing to a (very) questionable buzzer-beater in the final.

Suffice to say, I’m excited [and financially invested] to see how Fil’s anger translates to the next event in El Salvador. All of which is discussed in this week’s edition of the Stab CUSP.

In this episode, Stace and I break down all the important goings-on in the Javanese jungle, including wins, losses, judging, injuries, wild fits of rage and everything in between, before shifting focus to forecasts and predictions for the upcoming event at Punta Roca.

This episode includes our official picks to win the El Salvador event, which you can turn into cash on Betonline.ag. Keep in mind, Stace went 2/2 in the last event.
