A Free Tour Worth Scratching Into What’s Left Of Your Summer Diary

2018, you’re moving too fast. We’ve already crossed the solstice, which probably means something serious in the world of Astrology, but little more to the rest of us than the scientifically-proven fact that, for the southern hemisphere, the days only get shorter from here on. Yes, we’re sliding inevitably towards cooler times. But fear not, there’s more juice to squeeze from the fruit that is summer 2017/18. Like free parties with your friends at Stab and Summer Bright Lager.

Welcome back to Summer Sessions, where for a handful of weeks, we board a mini van with a couple of bands, stay up way too late, consume too many consumables and invite you all along to do it with us. Last tour we rolled with Cub Sport and Middle Kids up the east coast from Wollongong to the Sunshine Coast, this time round we’ve broadened our horizons to include the sometimes forgotten (sorry!) folk of Australia’s western state. We’re looking down the barrel of six shows in total, two in the west and four out east.

Let’s intro the tour’s musically talented cast.

Alex Lahey, she’s the gritty indie star from Melbourne, recently nominated for APRA’s oh-so-prestigious Song Of The Year award (alongside Paul Kelly!) for her latest single, Every Day Is The Weekend. Taking a quick peek over on her Spotify page, one of her tracks has clocked over two and a half million spins, we added an extra and were greeted with dirty power chords, anthemic choruses and punk femme fatale flavour.

In the more psychedelic corner we have The Belligerents. This is definitely a band we can dig. Among the catchy riffs and motifs are jangling guitars, thick walls of sound, swirling effects and subtle nods to bygone eras. The gents hail from Brisbane, so we’re expecting things to really heat up as the tour passes their home turf, and we hear at least one member can sling a surfboard (stay tuned for evidence).

Similar to last time round, Stab will be at every show, lens and beverage in hand and once again we’ll be extending the invite out to any of our pro surfer pals in the vicinity. We’ll take them to the shows, intro them to the bands, take them surfing, shoot, edit and upload the FOMO right here on Stabmag.com.
