Quiksilver’s Young Guns Is Open For Biz!

Think you’ve got what it takes to throw down with the best under-18 surfers in the world?

Quiksilver has just re-ignited one of their greatest-ever projects; Young Guns. Last year, King Of The Groms crescendoed with a 10-prodigy final on a remote Brazilian island, from which Sebastian Williams emerged as king. This year, KOTG reincarnates as Young Guns, another of Quik’s brill talent-discovery programs. And as of right now, they’re searching for the top 30 groms in the world to make it into round two.

So here’s the deal: You’ve gotta be under the age of 18 by December 31, 2016 and over the age of 13 before May 1, 2016 to qualify. If that’s you, then it’s time to find yourself a lensman.

The first round will take place for the remainder of the month, May 3 – May 31 (2016, duh). And since your gen can’t keep your thumbs off the scroll, this party kicks off on Instagram. You know how to use that right?

There’s three categories for you to enter: #YGRail (judged by Zeke Lau!), #YGAir (judged by Mikey Wright!) and #YGCombo (judged by Jeremy Flores!). On Instagram, post your best clips tagging @quiksilver plus one of the above hashtags. So let’s say you blast a full roter out to the flats; gram it, @quiksilver and #YGAir. You can enter each category as many times as you please. Just make sure each entry is one wave. Simple enough? We know attention spans are diminishing, so let’s hope so.

Whatcha waiting for, kid? Get at it!

Now, let’s introduce to you the judges:
Mr Zeke Lau will be judging the rail cat. Why? Because Zeke moves water like a suped up ocean freighter on a high speed pursuit. This cat’s all about heavy hacks, burying that rail and turning on the firehose!

This right here, is why Mr Wright’s currently out with an ankle injury. Photo: Bosko

The honourable Mikey Wright will be the man you want to impress in the air. So find that ramp, charge full speed ahead and send it with all your might. Watch Mikey’s Rage clip, for inspiration, just try not to break your ankles!

QS 2016 S1 Jeremy BOSK9951

Jeremy Flores knows how to bring it all together, which is why he’s a former Pipe Master and has been on tour for nine years. Photo: Bosko

Monsieur Jeremy Flores will be judging the combo segment. And who better? The cat’s currently sitting in the top ten of the WSL and is one of the world’s most well rounded surfers. What he’s looking for is, speed, power and flow. Get shacked, come of the top and cap it off with a big old punt. The winning waves will be in the excellent range.
