You Don’t Want To Draw This Guy When It’s 10-Foot And Heaving
A tube-riding masterclass.
The name Skip McCullough mightn’t register on your surfing rolodex. But ask anyone on the QS who they most fear when the waves get cylindrical, and the La Jolla local will be at the top of their list.
Skip won the Cloud 9 comp back in 2018, put on a huge performance at Lance’s right in 2016, and rode one of the best waves we’ve ever seen in a QS event in Chile last year. Not to mention, he’s bagged over a dozen legitimate bombs between Pipe and OTW in the past few winters and pillaged the entire Indonesian archipaelgo.
While Skip is supported by brands like Brixton, Xanadu, Crap Eyewear etc., he supplements his travel budget by working as a fence-builder in his hometown of La Jolla. In our eyes, this makes Skip all the more endearing.
The video above, edited and primarily filmed by Ryan Johnson, captures some of Skip’s finest moments from the past few years on and off Tour. It is a bona fide masterclass in tube-riding and 20 minutes you won’t regretting wasting online.
